New Year, New You Part 1

The pandemic brought on a lot of stress to your year. You may have had to live every day with caution and a mask on your face. With so much that has happened, from businesses failing to new COVID-19 variants, it could be challenging to have a positive outlook in the new year.

Still, it is important to remember that every year brings the opportunity for positivity. It is just about having the right tools on hand when times get rough. Your new year may not magically be cartoon-happy, rainbow-filled, or complete with happy birds singing you awake every morning, but just being around positivity can make a difference in your mental outlook.

Here are some helpful ways to transform yourself into a new you during the new year.

Positive Affirmations

Everyone should wake up in the morning with purpose and excitement for what the day brings. You can start the day right with positive affirmations to brighten your mood and motivate yourself.

Positive affirmations are phrases you repeat to yourself about what you would like to be. It is like you are reminding yourself of the strength you know you have to reach your goals. Examples can be-

  • I am grateful to be alive.

  • I am going to have a great day.

  • Every day I am better than before.

  • I am blessed.

  • I am capable of overcoming anything.

Keep repeating these affirmations with as much emotion and power as you can. Once you feel the power of your words, you will be inspired to live your day to the fullest. You can write these affirmations on your phone or keep sticky notes of them on your mirrors or desk where you can find them easily.

Positive People

Life would be so easy if you were always around people who make you feel good. Unfortunately, you cannot always run away from relatives who bring you down or employees who make you feel small. Yet, why should these people have such an effect on you?

This year, tell yourself to focus solely on the people who make you smile. You can use this year as a chance to evaluate the friends you have. See if these people make you happy or take advantage of you. Find opportunities every day to connect with people who encourage your dreams and make you feel special.

You can see if you can meet a friend for a coffee or find something fun in the area to do. If you are both too busy, see if you can call each other at least once a week. You can also find volunteer opportunities to help those who need it. Most certainly, you will feel like you are making a big difference in the lives of others. Positive people will help you feel good throughout the year no matter what challenges come your way.

Practice Gratitude

Every day brings you something worth celebrating if you pay attention. Even if you did not win the lottery, there are still little things that can make you feel grateful for being alive today.

Also, practice gratitude by keeping a gratitude journal with you. At the end of the day, write down everything that happened to you today that you are grateful for. For example, maybe you are grateful that you got a raise at work or that you have a dog to pet when you are feeling anxious. Celebrating the little things will help you see what you have that others do not.

The new year can bring you many opportunities to see the world in a new light and participate with a positive outlook. Are you interested in learning more about how to be a new you for the new year? Please contact us to schedule an appointment for your first consultation.
