As we enter the new year, there may be a rising fear that this year will be the same as last year. Every day will just float by with nothing worth remembering. There are all of these things that you want to do, but feel like you cannot fit the time in when you have work and home obligations.
This is all the more reason why rituals can be a great thing to adapt to the new year. Highly successful people create patterns of behavior and activities to incorporate into their everyday life. As you develop these healthy habits, you are one step closer to following your dreams. You can try committing to these rituals for a month to start off with and adjust them if need be.
To continue on your journey towards a new you into the new year, here are some daily habits for success.
Become an Early Bird
If you are not much of a morning person, it can be a struggle to adapt to an early wake-up time. However, it really is true that "the early bird catches the worm." You will have much more time to do the things you want to do during the day the earlier you start.
You can also use the early morning to get the creative juices flowing. If you have a project you have to do for work or plan on reorganizing your home, you will have the early morning energy you need to get it done. Aim for 6 or 7 in the morning to really take advantage of the morning hours.
Morning Meditation
Mediation can help train your attention and awareness. These practices will help you be mentally calm and stable to get tasks done.
If you are new to meditation, you can start by sitting still for a few minutes in a comfortable position. Focus on inhaling and exhaling while noticing the rhythm of your breathing. For guided mediations, you can find a number of them through free apps, podcasts, and YouTube videos.
Plan Your Day
You should begin every day with a purpose. Without daily objectives, mind-numbing activities come into play like napping or binge-watching.
Get a planner or write down on a piece of paper next to you what you want to accomplish. Do not worry how big or small these plans are. The point is to create an agenda of what needs to get done today. This list will give you something to look forward to with real satisfaction every time you cross off an item.
Make Time for What You Value
You do not need to quit your job, leave the house in shambles or avoid paying the bills. It is just a matter of finding room to do things that matter to you on top of your responsibilities.
During your lunch breaks or on your days off, fit in some family time. Find an enjoyable event or plan a vacation. If volunteering is important to you, give back to your community when you have time to spare. Continue to touch base with what you value in life does not have to be all work and no play.
Journal
If you want to record the best memories you made this year, write it in a journal. You can also jot down anything that is bothering you compared to keeping it inside.
Journaling is also a great way to keep track of your goals. You can write about the progress you have as well as the steps taken to accomplish them.
