Substance Abuse Counseling

Do You Rely On Drugs And/Or Alcohol To Get Through Your Day?

Has your dependence on drugs or alcohol caused ongoing problems in your life? Do you often ignore the negative consequences of your addiction? Are you using drugs and/or alcohol to deal with stressful work or social situations? It’s possible you believe that you gain confidence and comfort from drinking or using mind-altering drugs. Do you miss days at work – something that you never did in your past – because you were drinking and/or using drugs? Perhaps you have experienced occasional blackouts during or after drinking. Are you preoccupied with finding opportunities to drink or do drugs? Has substance abuse driven a wedge between you and your loved ones? Do you wish you could take the courageous steps to free yourself from drug and alcohol dependence?

These are just a few of the characteristics of problem drug and alcohol dependency. Despite this condition, many people who are struggling with these issues do not even realize that they have a problem. Alcohol and drug use often starts out as a fun, social or experimental activity, but it gradually slips into becoming a habitual and self-destructive behavior that deteriorates the quality of your life and your relationships with friends, loved ones and work colleagues.

Substance Abuse Is A Global Problem In Our Communities

Most people who get addicted to drugs and/or alcohol start routinely using these mood altering substances as a response to life’s stresses, losses, trauma experiences, financial distresses or insecurities. For addicts, drugs and alcohol offer a temporary and false sense of feeling good. These substances dampen negative thoughts and distresses – masking them, so we feel better in the moment. However, with continual use, the brain, body and spirit are unable to sustain any of these false beliefs due to deterioration and alteration of the brain. At this point, the brain is literally hijacked. For some, the feel-good effect even causes addicts to believe they feel normal when using substances. Afterward, an addict may want to continue to recapture that euphoric feeling again and again only to eventually experience devastating consequences.

The good news is you have help and hope for recovery with substance abuse counseling. If you are ready to address your issues surrounding drugs and/or alcohol, I am here to guide you.

Free Yourself From Your Addiction With Substance Abuse Counseling

During compassionate substance abuse counseling, you and I will first identify the best evidence-based behavioral therapy for your recovery. This individualized approach will go well beyond the traditional 12-step program and tailor-create techniques and strategies to best suit your personal needs.

If you are not ready for an outpatient program and need a higher level of care, I can connect you with someone who can help you stabilize your body and start functioning normally. Afterward, you and I will begin your outpatient program, which we will jointly create to address both your mental health and dependency issues.

My substance abuse counseling sessions can provide you with innovative and proven tools to incorporate into your daily life in order to cope with routine stresses. We will also work together through one or more treatment modalities that help you remap your thought process and stop the urge to drink or use drugs. In addition, you will have the chance to take part in hands-on creative exercises and homework to deepen your processing and to help you stay on track toward a full recovery.

You may also benefit from group therapy, which has a long history of research that supports positive sustaining results. In a group environment, you can feel validated and more understood as all group members work together engaging in open conversation and sparking creative ideas.

For decades, I have helped countless individuals recover from painful addictions. Even though you may feel like you are helpless and stuck, substance abuse counseling can provide you with the support, guidance and knowledge you need to overcome your addiction and move on to live a fulfilling life.

My Loved One Struggles With Addiction

It’s very common for families and loved ones of alcoholics and drug users to experience deep pain as a result of an addict’s behaviors. Unfortunately, families often do not know how to cope. You may feel like your family will never regain balance, but I can teach you how to focus on your personal needs as well as the needs of your family.

You will have the opportunity to learn ways to stop concentrating on your loved one’s actions as you recognize that you are unable to control his or her behaviors. I will help you learn how to set positive boundaries so you can confidently implement new daily routines. You, too, have hope to make positive changes to help you loosen the entrenchment of your loved one’s addictive behaviors and regain your personal well-being. Please contact me to learn more about how I can help you and your family.

You may be interested in substance abuse counseling but still have a few questions and concerns…

I believe I can control my drug and/or alcohol use. Why do I need counseling?

You may have formed a pattern of using drugs and/or alcohol that makes you feel like you are still in control. However, as you continue to rely on substances and escalate the frequency and amount you consume, your tolerance increases. You will find that the increasing usage will impact your daily life, harming your relationships with your loved ones and your health, both mentally and physically. The sooner you attend substance abuse counseling sessions, the better your chances are for a faster and more lasting recovery.

I am worried about what others will think of me if I seek substance abuse counseling sessions.

Our sessions are 100 percent confidential, so you can keep your treatment strictly between you and me. At the same time, it is helpful to surround yourself with positive support from family and friends, who will encourage your decision to free yourself from addiction. Chances are, you have one or more people in your life who would be proud of your courageous decision to see a therapist.
